PURPOSE:To hold strength of a whole hull through simple constitution, by a method wherein a reinforcing plate, being elongated in the direction of the length of a ship in a manner to be superposed with the upper deck of an extended modified hull and the outer plate of a hull, is set so that a weld joint line is inclined at 30 deg. with the direction of the width of a ship. CONSTITUTION:An elongated reinforcing plate 1, extended in the direction of the length of a ship, is secured in a manner to be superposed with an upper deck 4 and the outer plate of a hull, e.g. a ship side, ship bottom, of an extended modified hull S. In the reinforcing plate 1, a weld joint line 5 thereof is set so as to have an inclination angle of approximately 30 deg. with a direction (b) of the width of a ship. Thus, even if a defect and damage occur to the weld joint line 5 of the reinforcing plate 1, since the weld joint line is set in an inclinded manner, it is not brought into a state in that it is positioned at right angles with a direction in which the longitudinal bending stress of the hull S is exerted, end damage and the like is prevented from propagation throughout the whole of the line 5. This constitution enables holding strength of the whole of the hull.
