PURPOSE:To remove the harmful components in an exhaust gas with high removal efficiency by poring through-holes circumferentially at spaced intervals to corrugated sheets and flat sheets made of metals thereby communicating adjacent exhaust gas passages. CONSTITUTION:This metal honeycomb carrier is constituted by superposing the corrugated sheets 31 and flat sheets 33 made of the metals and winding these flats is multiple plies and is thereby formed with core parts 35 having the multiple layers of the exhaust gas passages 34. The through-holes 37, 39 are circumferentially formed at the spaced intervals to the corrugated sheets 31 and flat sheets 33 to communicate the adjacent exhaust gas passages 34. This metal honeycomb carrier is housed in a cylindrical vessel 41 and is used as a catalyst converter. The exhaust gas flows in the direction where the pressure difference between the central part and peripheral part of the core parts 35 is eliminated; namely, the exhaust gas in the central part where the volume velocity is high flows toward the peripheral part where the volume velocity is low. As a result, the harmful components in the exhaust gas are removed with high removal rate in the entire region of the core parts 35. |
