PURPOSE:To improve the shape quality of a rolled stock by judging the shape of a rolled stock by finding a ratio crown variation in the shape control pass at the time of hot rolling a thick plate and performing the bending and tilting of a leveling roll. CONSTITUTION:An input device 9, arithmetic and control unit 10 and hot leveler control device 11 are respectively arranged for the work rolls 6, 7 of a rolling mill and the upper and lower leveling rolls 2, 3 of a leveler. The respective point >=three points including the center part, both end parts in the plate width of a rolled material 1 is selected, the item information of a target plate thickness, load, etc., is inputted from the input device 9 to arithmetic and control unit 10 and the shape of the rolled stock 1 is judged by calculating the ratio crown variation rate of each point by the unit 10. The bending/tilting of the upper lower leveling rolls 3, 2 is controlled by the device 11 based on this judgement. With this method, an optimum straightening is performed on the rolled stock 1 and the shape quality thereof is improved.
