PURPOSE:To improve the working efficiency as well as to enhance the size precision of a thermocouple pile by spirally cutting a cylinder consisting of connected two kinds of metallic thin plate, thereby making a thermocouple pile shaped in a coil. CONSTITUTION:The side edge parts of metallic thin plates 1, 2 are overlapped and connected together by soldering or welding. Then, the connected metallic thin plates 1, 2 are rounded into a cylindrical shape and further connected together by soldering or the like to form a cylinder 3. Next, the cylinder 3 is cut along a cutting line 4 running around the cylinder 3. At this cutting, the cylinder 3 is rotated and simultaneously the cylinder 3 and a cutter 7 disposed outside the cylinder 3 are relatively moved in the axial direction of the cylinder 3 for cutting. Then, by removing a hatched part 8 of the cylinder 3, a thermocouple bimetal is made in which different kinds of metals are sequentially connected together in the shape of a coil.
