PURPOSE:To allow a digital oscilloscope user to view a probability area histogram analysis simultaneously with a timer area display by displaying a probability density histogram. CONSTITUTION:An input signal 35 is detected 40, amplified 45, and applied to a sampling bridge 60. The sampled voltage of the signal 35 is held 65 with the cycles of clocking pulses 50 and amplified 70. Then, the voltage is A/D- converted 80 and stored in a memory 90. Digitized information is analyzed by calculating the probability density histogram. The digitized information is mapped on a display screen 10 from the memory 90 and the probability density histogram of the signal 35 is displayed. A control circuit 95 controls the A/D converter 80 and the mutual operation between the memory 90 and display screen. A voltage (amplitude) axis is set as the axis of ordinate while a probability area and a time area are equal and in parallel, and the axis of abscissa is the scale of time in the time area. The axis of abscissa of the probability area indicates the degree of probability. Phase and frequency information on a waveform is shown by time area displays 200... and probability areas 200A... form the probability density histogram.
