PURPOSE:To contrive the reduction of an access time to a position having a recording by using a means detecting a reproducing position instructed by an instruction signal so as to inhibit an access by a reproducing means when the absence of recording is detected. CONSTITUTION:A control means inhibiting the access by the reproducing means is provided when the absence of recording is detected by the means detecting the reproducing position instructed by the instruction signal. That is when a track position is being incremented and reaches a position stored in a register NRS, then a video signal displayed on a monitor set is muted by turning off a switch 14, and a register TrNo-P to display a track No is incremented even with the instruction of further increment, but the actual head position is in standby onto the NRS. Thus, the speed at the next head access is increased to prevent the user from regarding the state as a fault.
