PURPOSE:To enable highly sensitive measurement of a correct surface pressure without a larger size of a water tank and the apparatus, by bringing one end of a working rod into contact with a central part of a partition floating between parallel side walls of a rectangular tank while the other end is connected to a tension measuring system. CONSTITUTION:Between parallel side walls A and B of a rectangular Langmuir water tank 1, a partition 2 floats which consists of a pliable and water repelling material, for example, silk yarn coated with vaseline longer than the interval of the side walls. One end of a working rod 3 is brought into contact with a central part C of the partition 2 while the other end thereof 3 is connected to a tension measuring system 5 such as load cell. On the other hand, the partition 2 is provided movably with a barrier 6. Changes in the surface pressure of a single molecular film with the movement of the barrier 6 are measured by the tension measuring system 5 through the working rod 3.
