PURPOSE:To reduce turbulence in exhaust pulsation for preventing irregular combustion in an engine by reading out exhaust temperature optimum to the rotating speed of the engine to compare it with the temperature of an exhaust pipe, and reducing the time lag of ignition timing when temperature difference between the above-mentioned temperatures exceeds its set value in a rotating speed range higher than the rotating speed of the engine for generating the maximum engine torque. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 12 for ignition timing reads out exhaust temperature optimum to the then rotating speed of an engine from stored data to compare it with the actual temperature of an exhaust pipe 8. When temperature difference between the above-mentioned temperatures exceeds previously set allowable value in a high rotating speed range higher than the rotating speed of the engine for generating the maximum engine torque, the ignition timing advances reversely to reduce its time lag. Since combustion time becomes thereupon shorter to lower the exhaust temperature, the variation of the exhaust temperature in the exhaust pipe 8 becomes less even when the exhaust pipe 8 is severely cooled to low temperature, for instance at car running in the rain. Thus turbulence in exhaust pulsation in the exhaust pipe 8 can be reduced for preventing the occurrence of irregular combustion in the engine.
