PREPARATION:For example, an acid salt of 4-methyl-5-chloromethylimidazole of formula II is made to react with a thiourea derivative of formula III at a molar ratio of nearly 1:1 in the presence of an acid such as hydrochloric acid. The reaction is generally carried out in a polar solvent such as methanol at room temperature for several minutes.
