PURPOSE:To obtain an impregnant of improved efficiency for carbon materials, by treating pitch in a wet grinder before or during the heat treatment and thereby minimizing quinoline-insoluble matters. CONSTITUTION:In producing an impregnant for carbon materials by the heat treatment of pitch, the pitch is treated in a wet grinder before or during the heat treatment. The pitch used herein includes primary liquefied coal products, e.g., pitch obtained by the solvent extraction of coal or coal tar, pitch obtained by the hydrogenation of coal, tar pitch, petroleum pitch, pitch obtained by the hydrocracking of petroleum or heat treatment of residual oil, and other analogous substances. The treating of the pitch in a wet grinder implies that said pitch is made to undergo high shearing force so as to crush and destroy amoeba-like consisting chiefly of high-molecular matters or sticky, viscous substances contained in the pitch. |
