PURPOSE:To enhance separation capacity, by a method wherein centrifugal separators are arranged in series in a multistage fashion and the flow rate ratio on a filtrate side and a cake side is set to such a condition that the water content of a cake discharged becomes min. in the first stage and the recovery of the cake becomes max. in the second stage. CONSTITUTION:The height of a weir preventing the leakage of particles and the rotational speed of a screw 5 discharging the cake are adjusted in the first stage centrifugal separator 1 in order to separate relatively large particles and a filtrate to make it possible to make the water content of the cake discharged min. The cake having a large particle size is already separated in the second stage centrifugal separator 2 to be discharged to the side of the cake, and the height of a weir and the rotational speed of a crew 6 are adjusted in order to separate small particles containing fine particles and a filtrate to make the stagnation time of a treated liquid long. As a result, the leakage of the cake on a filtrate side is minimized to make it possible to enhance the recovery of the cake.
