PURPOSE:To make sludge easy to handle, by adding a dehydrating solution containing a Mannich modified substance of an acrylamide polymer and a vinyl imidazoline polymer to sludge before dehydration. CONSTITUTION:A dehydrating solution of pH8 or less containing a Mannich modified substance of an acrylamide polymer, of which the colloid equivalent value is -4--0.2meq/g at pH3 and the inherent viscosity (30 deg.C, 1N.NaCl) is 4(dl/g), such as polyacrylamide or polymethacrylamide and a vinyl imidazoline (prepared by allowing amine to act on an acrylonitrile polymer) is added to sludge. The mixing ratio of the Mannich modified substance and the vinyl imidazoline polymer is 90:10-10:90. Thereafter, said sludge is dehydrated using a dehydration means. By this method, dehydration property can be improved.
