PURPOSE:To obtain a decorative surface rich in three-dimensional feeling, by a method wherein masking is applied to the top surface parts of the protruded patterns of an exterior material and a three-dimensional feeling promoting agent is subsequently applied to the exterior material at a predetermined angle, and the masking and promoting agents on the top surface parts are removed to uniformly apply clear paint to the whole of the exterior material. CONSTITUTION:Masking coat paint 6 is applied to the top surface parts 4a of an exterior material 1 such as a color steel plate having an embossed pattern formed to the surface thereof by emboss processing by a roll coater. Next, a three-dimensional feeling promoting agent 8 such as polyester resin paint is sprayed to the decorative surface of the exterior material at an angle theta(e.g., theta=45 deg.) from a spray gun 9. After spraying, the masking coat paint 6 and promoting agent 8 on the top surface parts 4a are wipen off through a wipe-off roller and clear paint 15 composed of polyester resin paint is uniformly applied to the entire surface of the decorative surface. Thereafter, the promoting agent 8 and the clear paint 15 are cured by drying and baking to obtain a product excellent in three-dimensional feeling and generating no rust.
