PURPOSE:To reduce the load required in treatment, by treating waste water in a phenol manufacturing process with reverse osmosis membrane. CONSTITUTION:The waste water containing phenol, acetone and a very small amount of an org. substance and an inorg. substance generated in the distillation purifying process of a phenol manufacturing process is treated using a reverse osmosis membrane. As the reverse osmosis membrane, a synthetic composite membrane other than a cellulose acetate membrane usable in a pH range of 2-13 is used. By this method, fuel can be conserved.
