PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as a raw material for perfume, drugs, etc., in a relatively high yield and industrially, by heating a readily obtainable diallylacetal compound in the presence of a specific solid catalyst by using an ordinary device. CONSTITUTION:A diallylacetal compound (e.g. butylaldehydodiallylacetal, etc.) shown by formula I (R1 and R2 are H or 1-7C alkyl) is heated at about 100-200 deg.C in the presence of a solid acid catalyst obtained by calcining sulfate ion and alumina or sulfate ion, phosphate ion and alumina to give a 4-pentenal compound (e.g. 2-ethyl-4-pentenal, etc.) shown by formula II. Preferably the atomic ratio of the atoms constituting the solid acid catalyst is S/Al of 0.01-0.06 in the case of the sulfate ion and alumina and (P+S)/Al of 0.02-0.2 and S/P of 0.02-0.8 in the case of the sulfate ion, phosphate ion and alumina. |
