<p>PURPOSE:To advantageously obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals, etc., without problems of device corrosion, etc., in a debutylating 2,4-dichloro-3-methyl-6-tertiary butylphenol, by using a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:2,4-Dichloro-3-methyl-6-tertiary butylphenol is debutylated at 140-260 deg.C, preferably 160-240 deg.C to give the aimed compound. the heteropoly acid used as the catalyst is an acid which is formed by two or more metals among poly acids formed by bonding to an inorganic acid and, to be concrete, preferably molybdophosphoric acid, tungstophosphoric acid, etc., may be cited as the heteropoly acid. The amount of the heteropoly acid used is 0.01-10wt%, preferably 0.1-5wt% based on 2,4-dichloro-3-methyl-6-tertiary butylphenol.</p> |
