PURPOSE:To improve safety, by providing a sensor for detecting an obstacle in the rear of a vehicle and a means for applying brake according to the distance to the obstacle and the vehicle speed upon detection of the obstacle under reverse gear condition. CONSTITUTION:A control valve 20 is controlled in proportion to supply current to a proportional solenoid 21, so as to regulate the pressure in an operating pressure chamber D thus producing a regulated brake force. When an obstacle detection sensor in sensor group 40 detects an obstacle after a vehicle is backed, a detection signal is inputted to a controller 30. Furthermore, switch-OFF of foot brake detection switch, switch-ON of R gear switch in the sensor group 40 and vehicle speed are detected and inputted, and the distance to the obstacle is detected by a obstacle sensor and inputted. Said controller 30 regulates power supply to the proportional solenoid thus controlling the control valve 20. Consequently, brake force is produced according to the vehicle speed and the distance to the obstacle.
