PURPOSE:To control the mounting and detachment of a plate and the stop of a plate cylinder at a constant position, by a method wherein a servo motor is mounted and the stop at the constant position for replacing the plate is controlled and an absolute position detector for detecting a plate mount position is mounted to the shaft end of the plate cylinder and the operation of the cylinder of a plate mounting and detaching apparatus is controlled and a rotary actuator for tensioning the plate is controlled. CONSTITUTION:When a kicker 22 is brought to the position shown by a drawing by the operation of a rotary actuator 21, the automatic tensioning or loosening of a plate 16 is performed by the rotation of a plate cylinder 10. The kicker 22 is extended by the operation of the rotary actuator 21 of a plate tensioning device to loose the plate 16. Next, the tail side vice 17b of the plate cylinder 10 reaches a take- out position and the plate cylinder 10 stops. Thereafter, the air cylinder 32 of a plate mounting and detaching device takes a position ce and the upper teeth of the tail side vice 17b is opened (the operation up to this point is automatic). The air cylinder 32 takes a position cd and the upper teeth of the tail side vice 17b is closed. The plate cylinder 10 is reversed and, when a biting side vice 17a arrives at a detachment position, the plate cylinder 10 stops.
