It is possible to achieve a highly accurate rotary bearing with simple means using easily produced components of the gas and liquid bearing. The rotating part consists of a spherical segment of two bases. The stationary part consists of a spherical cap matched to the above spherical segment and of an annular disc which assumes the task of axial support. By forcing gas or liquid into the spherical zone (radial-axial support) and the annular plane bearing arrangement (counter-axial support), a gas or liquid film is formed between the stationary and rotating part. By relocating the feed passages for the bearing medium, it is possible to use the stator described above as a rotating part (rotor). By appropriate dimensioning, it is possible to employ the gas and liquid bearing for a range of applications from machine construction to precision engineering and metrology. |
