发明名称 PINION SHIFT MECHANISM OF STARTER
摘要 PURPOSE:To make the starter small-sized by freely inserting a shift plate into an outer peripheral groove which forms a part of a pinion sleeve and has a small width and allowing the shift plate to shift a pinion sleeve and pinion gear to the ring gear side of an engine by the pressing force in the rectilinear movement in a prescribed direction. CONSTITUTION:When a starter operates, a plunger 13 is attracted in the direction of the arrow A, and the branched part 10c of a shift lever 10 turns in the direction of the arrow B, and then a shift plate 9 performs a rectilinear movement in the direction of the arrow B through connecting members 9b and 11, interlocked with the above-described turn. A pinion sleeve 4 and a pinion gear 6 are shifted to the ring gear 7 side of an internal combustion engine by the pushing force of the rectilinear movement, and the pinion gear 6 is meshed with the ring gear 7. Therefore, the need of engaging the shift lever 10 directly with the outer peripheral groove of the sleeve as in the conventional is avoided, and since the dimension of the outer peripheral groove 8 is enough small for the shift plate 9 to be freely inserted, the whole length of the pinion sleeve, i.e., the shaft length of the starter can be shortened, and the whole starter can be made small-sized.
