The invention relates to a switching device for delayed contact making, consisting of at least one but preferably two stationary contacts (22, 22') and one moving contact element (20), the moving contact element interacting with a delay device. After an operating lever (3) has been operated, the effect of a plunger (2) on the moving contact (20) is delayed by a specific time. This delay results from the fact that the plunger (2) is coupled to a mass (4) in such a manner that said mass is set in motion, against its inertia, by the motion of the plunger (2). The mass (4) is preferably designed as a rotating body which is set into rotational motion by a coupling pin (5) which is arranged on the plunger (2) and acts outside the rotation axis of the mass (4). A tension spring (11) which acts in the sense of contact closing acts on the operating lever (3), while a compression spring (10) which acts in the sense of contact opening acts on the plunger (2). If the operating lever (3) is moved against the force of the tension spring (11), the compression spring (10) attempts to open the contact. However, to do this, it must set the mass (4) in rotational motion. If, in contrast, the force F1 is removed, the tension spring (11) tries to move the operating lever (3) into the original position, likewise against the inertia of the mass (4). <IMAGE>
