To design an apparatus for working plate-like workpieces, the edges of which have been cut to the finished shape with regard to the contour and are composed of straight and curved sections, completely anew and better accessible with regard to the basic construction, the straight-line guides (3) for the slides (13, 14) carrying the working units (B1 and B2) are arranged below the plane of the turntable (D) in the machine frame (1), and in the slides there is in each case provided a bearing journal (21) with an axis of rotation (26) running perpendicularly to the plane of the turntable, which bearing journal is fitted, at its upper end, with a support plate (22), on which the respective working unit (B1 and B2) can be interchangeably fixed in such a way that its pivoting axis (25) is offset with respect to the axis of rotation (26) of the bearing journal (21) in order to form a lever arm (H), via which the actuating members for the respective slide and the drive for the turntable are controlled, by the measured-off angular value, in such a way that the working unit or working units moves or move at substantially constant speed parallel to the edge. <IMAGE>
