PURPOSE:To make it possible to produce a color cathode-ray tube with a high quality plain image screen, by composing a frame to hold a shadow mask main body with a form shape memory material which has the property to be deformed inversely to the deformation direction given at a low temperature, as the temperature rises by heating. CONSTITUTION:By processing and shearing a titanium-nickel alloy in a specific form at a normal temperature, the form of a shadow mask of a color cathode- ray tube in the operating condition is memorized. Then the assembling and the manufacture of the color cathode-ray tube are carried out, and when the shadow mask is heated up to 400 to 500 deg.C in various heating treatments in the process of the assembling and the manufacture, a frame 12 is deformed in the reverse direction to the shearing deformation direction under the normal temperature, and the diameter of the frame is contracted. As a result, the tension does not inflict to the shadow mask main body 11, and when it is cooled in such a condition, the frame is restored to the shearing deformation direction at the original normal temperature. Therefore, the structure of the shadow mask for a color cathode-ray tube with a high quality plain image screen can be obtained.
