A device for exercising the sphincter comprises a unit for building up a superatmospheric pressure, an air inlet tube connected to the latter and an elastic sheath which is located at the end of the tube, and can be introduced into the sphincter region and inflated by the air pressure. In order to achieve better manageability, more favourable hygienic conditions and improved therapeutic efficacy the invention provides that the elastic sheath (6) be arranged in a central bore (12) of a tampon-like foamed body (13). <IMAGE>
