1-(Beta-D-Ribofuranosyl) 1,2,4-triazole 3-thiocarboxamide for use as an anti-tumour agent, is made by (a) reacting suitable molar amounts of 3-cyano 1-(2,3,5-tri-O-acetyl) 1,2,4-triazole with triethylamine and ethanol; (b) passing H2S gas through the soln. at 25 deg.C for 2 hours; (c) removing excess solvent; (d) reacting the residue with sodium methoxide in methanol at 25 deg.C for 3 hours; (e) neutralising with B10-RAD AG50W-X2 (H); (f) filtering; (g) removing solvent; and (h) crystallising the prod. from ethanol.
