Variable-ratio system for the production of adjustable speeds of rotation

In order to extend the speed control range of planetary differentials from the maximum speed of the driven machine to the stationary condition of the latter, the two input shafts of the differential are coupled. In the lower speed range, only one of the two driving machines assumes the task of adjusting the speed of the working machine. In the upper speed range, the input shafts are decoupled; the variable-ratio system then operates in the manner known hitherto.
