The drive piece for a vehicle steering gear consists of a driven piece (1) and a drive piece (6). The driven piece (1) forms a transfer profile (2) to convert the rotational movement of the drive piece into a translation motion of a secondary part of the steering gear. - The drive part (6) is connected to the driven part (1) by means of a cold forming process. The driven part (6) has a fitting bore (8) which corresponds with the size of the drive part (1) which in the form of a cog wheel or a worm gear. The connection between the drive part (6) and driven part (1) is provided by splines in the driven part (1) which fit into splines in the bore (6) of the driven part.
