1-(N- ((S)- 1-ethoxycarbonyl 3-phenylpropyl) L-alanyl) 1-proline, for use as an anti-hypertension, is obtained by (a) reacting (R)-4-phenyl 2-hydroxy butyric acid ethyl ester with tris-methylamino phosphine in DMF soln. in presence of CCl4; (b) reaction with ammonium perchlorate; and (c) nucleophilic substitution of the P-((S) -1-ethoxycarbonyl 3-phenylpropyl 1-oxy) P,P,P-tris (dimethylamino) phosphonium with L-alanyl L-proline.
