[Also in Division G3] A transducer utilizes a piezoelectric flapper 20 to control the pressure in chamber 25 in response to applied electrical signals. As shown, the flapper has plates 17, 18 coated with a conductive film. Terminals 13, 14 are connected to the inner and outer coatings respectively. The pressure in chamber 25 is applied to diaphragm 30 and the latter positions a valve 40 movable between supply and exhaust seats 45, 45a. The output signal at 46 is optionally amplified at 47 and fed to the inlet 27 of chamber 25 where it exerts a feedback force on the flapper. In a modification, valve 40 is omitted and the output signal is taken from the flapper chamber, this signal being fed back to the flapper through a diaphragm. In a further modification, the flapper controls the outlet from a chamber. The flapper in all cases acts as a capacitance 100 and exhibits " memory " so that the transducer can receive a pulsed input and will provide an output pressure proportional to the integral of a series of input current pulses.</p> |
