The letter box, posting, or deposit box (1) comprises walls of which at least one has an inlet (8) and an openable closure (4). The inlet (8) is arranged in a member with receiving space (9) and this member is swivelable between a position connecting the space to the box interior (11) and a position in which this space is accessible from outside via the inlet. In all positions, the member provides a practically air-tight closure (15) of the interior. The member is pref. the closure lid itself whilst, in the receiving position, the bottom of the space slopes down rearward to ensure drainage of any liquid via a tube (12) at the rear.
