PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition, having excellent compatibility of a resin with polyimide, readily moldable and suitable as electrical materials, etc., by reacting a mixture of aromatic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides with an aromatic diamine in an uncrosslinked novolak resin. CONSTITUTION:(A) An uncrosslinked novolak resin obtained by reacting phenols with aldehydes is melted, preferably at 140-130 deg.C, blended with (B) a mixture of (i) 50-93mol% benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid dianhydride with (ii) 7-50mol% aromatic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, e.g. pyromellitic acid dianhydride, etc., other than the component (i) and (C) an aromatic diamine containing >=50mol% diaminodiphenylmethane and/or tolylenediamine, preferably at 98/2-50/50 weight ratio of the component (A) to the total of the components (B) and (C) and reacted while stirring to afford the aimed composition. |
