PURPOSE:To eliminate influence of alcohol without impairing the sharp gas sensitivity of a metal oxide semiconductor gas sensor by juxtaposing a gas sensor consisting of lead chromate (PbCrO4) having sensitivity only to the alcohol with said sensor. CONSTITUTION:The gas sensor A having the sensitivity only to the alcohol and the metal oxide semiconductor gas sensor B having the sensitivity to the alcohol as well as combined and measurement is made simultaneously. The response of the gas sensor B is canceled only when the electrical response of the gas sensor A is obtd. The gas sensor A is obtd. by calcining the polycrystal powder of PbCrO4 at and for a prescribed temp. and time, pulverizing the powder, adding a binder thereto, forming a thick film of such powder on an aluminum substrate on which a counter electrode consisting of gold is formed, and calcining the thick film. A sensor of a sintered body type formed by using metal Sn or SnCl4, sensor of a thick film type formed by using SnO2 powder, sensor of a thin film type formed by using a sintered SnO2 body, etc., are used as the sensor B.
