PURPOSE:To make the corrosion or deterioration of the electrode main body of a reference electrode hard to generate, by forming the electrode main body of a reference electrode from a metal selected from a group consisting of a platinum group metal and gold and providing a liquid communication part connecting an electrode liquid and a specimen solution. CONSTITUTION:A reference electrode 3 is constituted of an electrode container 8 having a connection port 8a to a liquid communication part, an electrode liquid 9, an electrode main body 10 and a part for allowing hydrogen gas having constant equilibrium gas partial pressure to dissolve in the electrode liquid 9. This part is constituted of a bubbler 12 for allowing the hydrogen gas supplied through a hydrogen gas supply pipe 11 to dissolve in the electrode liquid 9, a pressure holding valve 13 and a water sealing member 14 for preventing other gas from mixing in the container 8. Further, main body 10 is formed from a noble metal selected from a group consisting of a platinum group element and gold and a material hardly generating the reaction with the specimen solution and prevented from dissolving in the electrode liquid is selected in use corresponding to the kind of the acid or base in the specimen solution and the concn. range capable of being taken by said acid or base. Therefore, the corrosion or deterioration of the main body of the reference electrode due to the electrode liquid can be made hard to generate. |
