The drive, which can be used on a bicycle, has two vertically guided reciprocating pedals (8) connected to an endless cable (1) so that the movement is converted to rotary movement. The cable is guided by rollers (9) and then around two wheels (3,4) connected by a freewheel system to a further wheel (5) in the position of a conventional crank wheel of a bicycle. The first two wheels are driven alternately in the same direction by the freewheels. An alternative cable drive uses separate cables for the two pedals. ADVANTAGE - Efficient force transmission.
