PURPOSE:To make a sheet possible to compensate its position at a resist part easily and accurately, by reducing a conveying speed at a spot short of that the sheet arrives at the resist part, and stabilizing the loop value of the sheet, in case of a copying machine or the like. CONSTITUTION:A decelerating device Y selects each conveying speed of feed rollers 15 and 16 to low speed when a sensor S4, constituting the sheet detecting device installed in an upstream part of a resist roller 13, detects a sheet, and it decelerates the conveying speed of the sheet to be conveyed to a resist part. Accordingly, at a point of time when the sheet arrived at the resist roller 13, it is conveyed at fully stable low speed, so that stable loop value less in an error is securable. In consequence, conveying position compensation in the main scanning direction is positively performable under the proper loop value. Thus, positional compensation of the sheet at the resist part is made performable easily and accurately.
