An axial flow fan is mounted in an opening in a wall, or a window, or a door. The fan inlet duct reduces in dia. in the direction of the outlet duct. The flow through the fan is controlled by hinged flaps (3a,3b). These flaps are actuated by rods (11) attached to one arm (5a) of a U-shaped bimetallic strip (4) whilst the other arm (5b) is rigidly attached to the fan housing. Electrical heating elements (6a,6b) are attached to each arm of the bimetallic strip. When these elements are switched ON the bimetallic strip is heated and the upper arm (5a) moves upwards to open the flaps (3a,3b). USE - Control of air flow through fan.
