PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber having high strength and small hot water shrinkage, by melt-spinning a linear low-density PE copolymerized with an alpha-olefin and drawing and heat-setting the obtained undrawn fiber at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:A linear low-density PE having a melt index of 5-100, preferably 10-50 and copolymerized with preferably 2-20wt% alpha-olefin (e.g. 3-12C alpha-olefin such as butene-1) is melt-spun preferably at a spinning temperature of 180-280 deg.C and a spinning speed of 1,000-6,000m/min. The obtained undrawn fiber is drawn at a drawing temperature of 40-80 deg.C and heat-set at 80-110 deg.C to obtain the objective fiber having a tenacity of >=3g/d, preferably >=3.3g/d and a hot water-shrinkage of <=16%, preferably <=14.5%.
