SULFONATED AND POLYSACCHARIDE CROSSLINKED COMPOSITE MEMBRANE

PURPOSE:To obtain a separating membrane having satisfactory durability and high permeation coefft. and sepn. coefft. by using the crosslinked reactant of polysaccharides contg. a sulfonic acid base and/or sulfonic acid group and epoxy crosslinking agent to constitute a skin layer. CONSTITUTION:The polysaccharides contg. the sulfonic acid base and/or sulfonic acid group such as sulfoethyl cellulose and the epoxy crosslinking agent such as diglycidyl ether are so mixed that the weight ratio of the polysaccharides/ crosslinking agent attains 97/3-80/20. A curing catalyst such as zinc borofluoride is added to the aq. soln. and is cast on a porous backing membrane such as ultrafilter membrane made of polyether sulfone. The soln. is immediately dried by heating, by which the composite membrane formed with the skin layer consisting of the crosslinked reactant is obtd.
