PURPOSE:To permit leak proofing with a small amt. of impregnating liquid by pressing a pad for impregnation to a leaking point of a casting or die-cast product to mask said point and subjecting the inside of the masking to local vacuum impregnation. CONSTITUTION:The casting or die casting 1 having the part 20 of an intricate shape where leakage is liable to arise by generation of blowholes, etc. is fixed onto a surface plate 2. A pad 4 for masking and a pad 6 for a backing strip are respectively strongly pressed by cylinders 6, 7 to the machined surface of said casting. The inside of the space 21 in the casting is evacuated to a vacuum by a vacuum pump 11 and the acrylic impregnating liquid in a tank 10 is filled in the space 21. The casting is held in this state for about 30 seconds to close the leaking point with the impregnating liquid. The remaining impregnating liquid is pushed back into the liquid tank 10 by air and thereafter, the cylinders 6, 7 are released to complete the impregnation. The casting is then rinsed and is sent to a curing stage where the casting is heated to cure the impregnating liquid. The generation of the leak at the leaking point 20 is thus prevented.
