PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion-resistivity of electrodes in an electrostatic precipitator provided with discharge electrode and dust collecting electrode by coating the surface of discharge electrodes with a thin film of porous silicon oxide. CONSTITUTION:The discharge electrodes 2 which electrostatically charge the floating particles in the air by corona discharge, and he dust collecting electrodes 5 which collect the electrostatically floating particles are provided. At least the surface of the discharge electrodes are coated with the thin film of porous silicon oxide. As a result, corona discharge is generated through the pores in the thin film of silicon oxide, and the thin film of silicon oxide acts as a filter for the floating particles in the air and prevent the floating particles to be brought into direct contact with metallic material. Consequently, the corrosion-resistivity of the electrodes are improve, and the electrostatic precipitator is stably operated for a long period in a corrosive environment.
