PURPOSE:To simply and certainly erase the erroneous printing of a character or mark erroneously recorded, by a method wherein a thermal head is moved in the direction reverse to that at the time of printing in a head-down state while the thermal head is allowed to generate heat and an ink ribbon is trans ferred in the direction reverse to a transfer direction. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head 4 is set to a head-down state at a position (c) and an ink ribbon 6 is held between a thermal head 4 and recording paper 10. Next, the thermal head 4 is moved to a position (e) skipping three characters of DEF in the direction shown by an arrow (d). By this mechanism, the ink ribbon 6 is transferred while the unused part thereof is drawn out by the same quantity as the moving quantity of the thermal head 4 from a ribbon take up bobbin. Next, the thermal head 4 is returned from the position (e) skipping three characters of DEF and moved to the direction shown by an arrow (f) and, at the same time, the heat generating part of the thermal head 4 is allowed to generate heat to adhere the characters DEF to be erased to an ink layer 21. It is an indispensable condition necessary for erasure that the ink ribbon 6 is peeled off from recording paper 10 after the ink ribbon 6 is cooled and a release layer 22 is solidified. |
