PURPOSE:To simplify a connecting operation by a method wherein a seal ring made of shape-memory alloy is cooled less than a desired temperature and both inner and outer surfaces of the seal ring are closely pressed against each of a pipe and a circular hole as the seal ring recovers its normal temperature under a condition in which the seal ring is placed between the pipe and the circular hole in a tank. CONSTITUTION:A pipe is made of shape-memory alloy and under its normal temperature it has an inner diameter slightly smaller than the outer diameter (a) of a pipe 1 and an outer diameter B slightly larger than the diameter (b) of a circular hole 23 in a tank 2. As a seal ring 3 is cooled less than a desired temperature, the inner diameter A is slightly larger than the outer diameter (a) of the pipe 1 and the outer diameter B is slightly lower than the diameter (b) of the circular hole 23. This seal ring 3 is fitted from a distal end of the pipe 1 until it abuts against an annular projection 13, this pipe 1 is inserted from the circular hole 23 and the distal end surface 12 is engaged with an inner surface of a pushing hole 25. In this case, the seal ring 3 is overlapped with an inward directed flange 22 of the circular hole 23. The seal ring 3 is heated or left in a surrounding atmosphere and as it is restored to its normal temperature, the inner and outer surfaces of the seal ring 3 may press the pipe 1 and the circular hole 23.
