Compressed pectin granulates - for reducing blood cholesterol and lipid levels

Prodn. comprises finely grinding commercial pectin making into a paste with water, compressing in an extruder, and extruding into particles 0.3-1 mm in diam. and 0.3-5 mm long and drying. Compressed granulates of pectin or its physiologically harmless salts, with a grain size of 0.3-5mm and a bulk density of 900-1100 g/l. are useful as an easy-to-take form of pectin for lowering lipid, triglyceride and cholesterol levels in blood serum to prevent cardiac infarction, the granules being pref. provided with a coating, esp. of edible acid.
