PURPOSE:To increase the refractive index and to improve the resistance to wear and heat, by adding a specified amount of a niobium substance to polymethyl methacrylate. CONSTITUTION:0.05-3wt% niobium substance contg. niobium (Nb) is mixed with polymethyl methacrylate and the mixture is molten to form the title resin. As the niobium substance, niobium as well as niobium compds. and niobium intermetallic compds. can be used. Examples thereof are niobium carbide (NbC), niobium nitride (NbN), lithium niobate (LiNbO3), niobium pentoxide (Nb2O3), niobium germanide (Nb3Ge), aluminized niobium (Nb3Al), etc.
