PURPOSE:To impart novel bluish metallic gloss to a base plate by forming a film which consists of a lower layer mainly composed of metallic Ti, mixed intermediate layer composed of metallic Ti and TiO2 and outside layer mainly composed of TiO2 and has a specific total thickness on the surface of the base plate by an ion plating method in an oxygen contg. atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The lower layer essentially consisting of the metallic Ti, the intermediate layer consisting of the mixture composed of metallic Ti and TiO2 and the outer layer essentially consisting of TiO2 are successively coated on the surface of the base plate (stainless steel, etc.) by using the ion plating method in the atmosphere contg. gaseous oxygen by which the film having the three-layered structure and <=5mu total thickness is formed on the base plate surface. The bluish high-hardness film having the novel metallic gloss is thereby formed and the external parts for timepieces having excellent wear resistance, scratching resistance, adhesiveness and corrosion resistance are obtd.
