PURPOSE:To provide a two-cycle engine which is simple in structure and switchable between forward running and reversing, by a method wherein the rotation position of a crank shaft when the voltage of a primary current is highmost during forward or reverse running is set to the symmetrical position of the top dead center of a piston. CONSTITUTION:Both ends of a core 37 of an induction coil 35 generate a primary current to an electromotive coil in the induction coil 35 along with rotation of a magnet coil 9. In the voltage curve of a primary current, the structure and the sizes of a magnet and the core of an electromotive coil are set so that a rotation position theta1 of a crank shaft at a time when a voltage is highmost during forward running and a rotation position theta2 of a crank shaft at a time when a voltage is highmost during reverse running are symmetrical about a rotation position O of a top dead center. An ignition coil is incorporated in the induction coil part 35 together with the electromotive coil, and a high voltage current is generated in response to the induction coil to effect discharge at an ignition plug.
