PURPOSE:To form a high-quality rust-preventive coating film with excellent workability in spray coating, by applying a coating material comprising a solution of a specified bituminous substance in an industrial gasoline or aromatic solvent to an alloy steel which will be exposed to a hot water vapor atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A bituminous substance of a softening point of 85 deg.C or lower and a small amount of a thixotropic agent (e.g., sorbitan monooleate) are dissolved in 50-69wt% of either an industrial gasoline (e.g., a mineral spirit having a 50% distillation temperature of 180 deg.C or lower and an end point of 205 deg.C or lower) or an aromatic solvent (e.g., xylene), thus giving a coating material. This coating material is applied to the surface of an alloy steel which will be exposed to a hot water vapor atmosphere and comprises, e.g., a rotor or a blade of a turbine for geothermal power generation.
