PROCESS FOR PREPARING 1-SULFO-2-OXO AZETIDINE DERIVATIVES

1-sulpho-2-oxoazetidine derivs. of formula (I) and their salts and esters are prepd. by the acylation of compds. of formula (II). In the formulas, R is a residue derived from an organic compd. by removal of one hydrogen atom attached to the carbon atom of an azetidine ring; R1 is an acylated amino gp.; X is H or methoxyl. (I) are useful as broad antibacterials and beta-lactamase inhibitors.
