PURPOSE:To obtain a color signal with high gradation by using the non-exposure part of a film so as to execute a shading correction at the time of reading a color negative film and obtaining data for shading correction not through the film at the time of reading a positive film. CONSTITUTION:In case of the color negative film, a film carrier in which a cyanic color correcting filter is fixed is set in a projector 211 and the non- exposure part (film base) of the film which is going to be used is set in a film holder. The cyanic filter cuts the orange base component of the color negative film and adjusts the color balance of a color 6 sensor 6 where R, G and B filters are attached. By fetching shading data from the non-exposure part, a dynamic range can be made wide in case of the negative film. In case of the films except color negative film the film carrier with an ND filter or without a filter is set so as to obtain the data for shading correction.
