PURPOSE:To increase the chemical and heat resistance of a polycarbonate resin without detriment to its inherent excellent properties, by using a specified m-alkenylphenol compound as a mol.wt. modifier. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate resin of a viscosity-average MW of 9,000-50,000 is obtained by using a m-alkenylphenol compound of formula 1 (wherein R is a 1-4C alkyl) as a mol.wt. modifier. When this polycarbonate resin is mixed with a photoinitiator and the mixture is modified by irradiation with ultraviolet rays of electron beams, the effect of improving chemical and heat resistance is very noticeable.
